My first show was a bit of a disappointment as there were only my javas and one other pair.My silvers came first ,my opel pastels second.
I will be up against Bryan Roberts in the Neath show
(October 15) which will be a big test as Bryan is a well established java breeder.I will be looking forward to it.Hopefully there will be other javas entered aswell as myself and Bryan's.
OCTOBER 5
My young chicks are all doing well, the pastel chick and the cream chick are starting to colour up (photo to right).
The Opel Isabel and cream cock are very reluctant for me to have a look at their chicks. When i did manage to get them to leave the nest box there was one big enough to ring, the others were not quite big enough.I will have a look Saturday at them, they should be big enough then.
Also there are 5 less mice around now,and there is no sign of any.My traps are always left loaded just in case some decide to come back.
If anyone has some mice but no traps B&Q have 5 traps for £1.
OCTOBER 7
Today my fawn hen white cock first chick hatched, the eye lid is fleshy colour so it is either going to be a fawn or hopfully a red eye white.
OCTOBER 11
It looks as if only two of the white-fawn hen is only going to produce two live chicks the other three must be dead in shell.
My other chicks are doing well they are all now rung and logged onto my breeding record program.
Neath show is this coming Sunday i am grooming my birds ready.
OCTOBER 12
NOT TO SURE WHAT COLOUR THESE ARE YET!! (CREAM???)
NORMAL PASTEL RIGHT--CREAM LEFT
RED EYED WHITE OR FAWN???
PARENTS OF 2 CHICKS ON RIGHT
OCTOBER 15
Today was the Neath show,i thought there would be at least another person showing in the java section but it wasn`t to be.
Maybe the next show there will be some, never mind it was worth it as i came away with £20 and i won a bottle of wine in the raffle.
OCTOBER 21
The chicks to left looks as if one is going to be a white and the other a fawn, so i am very pleased.
My white hen with pied cock are sitting on 5 eggs, but there is no sign of life yet.
I am quite pleased with the colours that have come out of the cream cock and opel pastel hen, once fledged i will take some photos.
OCTBER 25
Things are starting to happen again ,my white hen is with a pied cock has laid 5 eggs and starting to show signs of life.
My pied have laid 3 eggs so far.The hen has a bad toe so i couldn`t show her,i don't think it will repair back as it should,so i am hoping that if she has chicks they carry her markings.
Also a normal (hatched 18/12/05) which is out of my first breeding pair, a very nice silver cock and a fawn hen,has paired up with a silver hen which laid their first egg today.
All my current year bread chicks have almost coloured out,so hopefully by march i will be able to pair them up to suitable partners.
My white chick (october 7) is starting its first coat of feathers and the other chick out of this clutch looks as if its a fawn pied.
My pastel chick and cream chick have started to leave the nest box (september 20) and my other four chicks (september 25) are also starting to think about coming out of the nest box.I cant quite put a colour to these four yet as the cock and hen very rearly leave the nest box for me to have a look.
OCTOBER 26
One of my chicks died today (Rlo27fawn pied) it didn`t look as if anything was wrong with it last night.I just hope my red eye white is ok ,it was a bit bigger, more lively and more feathered up than its brother/sister thinking about it now.Thats nature for you.
Also my own bread cream hen with a fawn cock laid her first egg today,so i am due 4 different pairs chicks to hatch roughly the same time.
OCTOBER 28
The parents of my red eyed white wern`t sitting on the chick for very long periods, when i looked in on it it was half dead and cold.I thought right i must try and hand rear it,so i took it to work last night and it is coming on nicely.
Not long after writing todays log the chick died.
OCTOBER29
I picked up a pair of Norwich Canaries yesterday from a breeder in London. He said that they were out of Keith Ferry`s stock he is the top man in Norwich`s so i`v been told. They are very calm in the cage ,i will have to get some feeders if i am going to try and bread from them.
