Today I candled my fawn cock x 100% pied hens' 8 eggs (two of the eggs are off my troublesome creams) to find that 6 are fertile so fingers crossed all goes to plan.
Also today I am separating my six silver chicks from their parents into a treble breeder for three days to check they are all feeding themselves. I do this with every chick I have bred before putting them into the flight, as it has proved worthwhile as I have not lost any chicks whilst in the flight for the first few days, also these are the first chicks I put my own rings on.
When I moved the silver chicks across to the treble breeder I sex them and log it onto my computer, but one of the bird's rings came off, so in the future I will check up to three days after I have put the rings on.
My silvers laid the first egg today the same day as I removed their chicks.
My birds are looking in tip-top condition - my oldest silver chicks are fully coloured out. 1 is a cock, the other a hen. The fawn chick is not fully coloured out but sings all the time. I spray my birds with water every few hours in this warm weather - they love it.
Two 7 months silvers the one on the left (hen) hasn`t long had a bath .

JULY 4
Not much happening, I separated my six silvers from their parents yesterday and they are doing great, I`ll be putting them in the flight tomorrow if it all goes to plan.
I separated my troublesome creams a week ago, I will put them back together next month to see if they will see the incubation period through to the end.
My 4 cage fronts came today which I won on Ebay, I was quite pleased with them. I will be making some extra breeding boxes with them, when I get time.
July 5
Not much to report today , i put the six silver chicks in the flight, with the older chicks and cleaned the breeding cages.
JULY 6
My large pied laid their first egg today, I will be shocked to see if any eggs will be full as I have not seen the cock treading the hen - he just keeps doing his love dance and singing - the hen soon gets fed up and goes for a feed.
The silver chicks are doing well in the flight, when I sexed them I had two hens and four cocks.
JULY 7
Not much happening at the moment, I have 5 pairs sitting on eggs. My three cream chicks are doing well, all my cock birds are forming a choir as they sing all day, and all my flight birds are fighting and playing.
I went fishing today, only caught a small one - put it back to live another day.I did find a bag full of fresh cuttle fish, which i will wash and soak over night.
JULY 10
Not much has happened over last few days, one pair of pied (July 6) like I thought their five eggs are clear, I`ll give them until the weekend before I remove them.Out of the other birds that are sitting I have eleven full eggs which is good.
JULY 13
Today I removed my pied 5 clear eggs, as they were all clear, and then messed up the nest they had build so they had to go through the process again, hopefully with better results.
A lot of the early chicks are at the latter stages of their moult,I will have to sort them out and see what I want to keep for next year's breeding programme.
JULY 17
My three cream chicks are all bald on their heads and neck ,they are in good health and feeding well.I have checked for any mites seems to be all clear,i removed the chicks and washed the nest box out and sprayed it with anti mite ,and put fresh nesting material in it ,just to be on the safe side.
My fawn + 100% pied pair all six eggs hatched ,i shall probably ring them Wednesday as they will be 6 days old.The parents are the biggest pair of birds i have got so there is a good chance i should have some good young out of them.
I sold two silvers today , and traded one of my silver hen ,for a fawn cock .I am trying to produce bigger creams as i find they are one of the smallest mutation of java.
The large sweet container is working a treat.
The fawn x 100% pied chicks all growing nicely.
Parants of chicks (left).
JULY 19
Today two of my fawn X white chicks hatched out , hopefully the other three eggs will hatch .
It looks like i have finally managed to get hold of a some show boxes for when i am ready to show some of my finest javas, hopefully next year sometime.
My feeder i made is working great.(July 17)
This was taken at 11 o `clock
This was taken at 20:50 , as you can see the 4`th egg on the far right of the picture is in the process of hatching, and the third chick has hatched.
JULY 20
Today i bought two show cages from a java society member, ready for next year (hopefully).
The last egg hatched today (ref:july 19) another good result.
Also i sold another two pairs two of my normal pied and a silver and opal ,they paid for my show cages. The birds i have left i will have to decide what i am going to keep to breed from next year,as the man who bought my birds today wants another two pairs when they are ready.
I am going to start putting some money aside for the Staford show this October,as this will be my first proper bird show where there will be lots of different types of javas and other java breaders ot meet.
JULY 28
Just come back from Majorca,it was 39 degrees much to hot for me ,my father had done a good job of looking after my birds for me it cost me 200 cigs but it was worth it.
The chicks(july 17)i rung the day i was flying three of the rings were off in the nest, bad timing on my part. The chicks are doing great, they look like they could be fawn pied.
The other chicks (july 19)were rung today except one as it is slightly behind in size to the others,i will have a look at it Sunday to see if it has caught up with the others.
JULY 30
I decided today to put the 4 pairs from the breeding section that havn`t got eggs or any chicks , for a month`s break in the flight.I will then put them back to the breeding quarters for their last round of eggs this breeding season.
Hopefully this plan will work out , and if so i will be doing it every breeding season.I will be feeding them with egg food to keep them in tip-top condition.
My first breeding season has gone well , if all seasons are like this one i will be happy , up to know my birds have reared 46 healthy chicks.
I have worked out the chicks i am going to keep for next season - 1 opal cock / 1 opal hen - 1 fawn pied hen /1 fawn pied cock - 1 silver hen /1 silver cock- 1 cream hen / 1 cream cock-1 fawn cock (split 100%pied-fawn) 1 fawn hen (split fawn-white).
