Hi hope everyone is looking forward to the Christmas period.
There looks like there is colder weather coming down from the north,so watch those drafts don't reach your birds.
I only have three pairs down, one pair has one pied chick which is due to leave the nest box any day.
I have a normal cock with a silver hen ,the cock is one of my first chicks out of a very nice silver cock and a fawn hen, which i am hoping the silver and fawn strain chick are going to be the end result out of the five full eggs they are sitting on.
Also i have one of my own creams hen with a fawn cock which are sitting on five full eggs. This is their second round, the first round they stopped sitting on the eggs,i hope they carry out the full term this time.
I have thirty javas in my flight,i have two nest boxes in the flight if any do feel ready to bread they can.I checked the nest box only to find 6 full eggs in one out of a pair of silvers, and eight eggs in the other of which i don't know which pair`s they are ,so tomorrow i will send some time to see which pair they are.
There are two bid shows coming up The South Wales Classic Sunday 17 December and The Welsh National January 21,hope to see you there.
December 13
I looked in the nest box on my flight, where a pair of Silvers had laid 6 eggs, there were three chicks hatched one of which was dead,it looks as if the birds had rushed out and flicked it in the corner of the nest box.The pair that laid the eggs are my best pair of Silvers so i am hoping they should produce some cracking young.
I have put a wireless camera up in my flight just to see which pair has laid in the other nest box,it looks like my best pied going in and out of the nest box.
I am taking my pair of opal pastels,a fawn,a silver and a normal to the show Sunday, hopefully there will be other javas entered this time.
It`s so mild my Boarder canaries are starting to carry, they are more ager than me to see the first chick hatching, but they have a long wait because i will not be putting the cock and nest pan in until late February.
Hope everyones birds are doing ok.
December 19
I was disappointed again no other javas entered at the show last Sunday, never mind i had a bag of Haiths seed for Best C.Y.B Opel pastels.
There are at least 20 java`s entered so far in the Welsh National January 21 so i am really looking forward to it just finally to compare how my stock of birds stand up to other breeders.
At the moment i have 2 silver java chicks which are progressing nicely and i have two chicks hatched out of a cream hen and a very nice fawn cock. The cream hen is one that i bread her first clutch were full but the pair didn`t carry out the full term,so far they are feeding the chicks ok.
December 22
One of my silver chicks was on the floor of my fight dead,it either died in the nest box and the parents threw it out,or another pair of birds got in whilst the parents were getting food for the young and killed one of the chicks. This must be one of the downsides of letting the javas breed in a flight.I hope the parents take better care of the other chick!
My two chicks out of my fawn cock and cream hen are doing well.
I would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.
December 23
Sadly this morning my other silver chick was dead in the nest box.I think a more prominent pair of birds had bullied the silvers out of the nest box.
I will now try to get the silvers ready for the show in January.
As all adult birds are trying to go down to nest i will separate the cock birds from the hens to get them ready for next year breeding season.
December 28
Today i went Pike fishing with a few local boys,we all put £2.50 in the pot and biggest fish wins.As it was not won last Christmas it got carried over to this Christmas the pot was £120.I packed up at 13:30 and there was only 1 pike caught by Chris who also has some Red Factor birds at this present time he might have a change of bird next year.
My two chicks are doing fine.
December 31
I came home from work yesterday and my Norwich hen was looking down so i took her up the house and put her in a cage on top of the boiler,i wasn`t very confident that she would pull through,i was right she died.I know have a Norwich cock without a partner.
Also my fawn cock and cream hen had stopped feeding the chicks so the chicks died.I have separated them now.
I only have 1 pair on eggs my white cock and a fawn hen still trying to produce the red eyed white.
Dean who i met through my website kindly picked up a nice pair of whites for me of Dave Pover ,whilst he was visiting relatives up North.I would like to thank them both.
I would like to wish everyone a Very Happy New Year and a good breeding season.
